Sessions in Pre-Prep

What?How?What we need from you
Live online sessions (daily)
  • Via Microsoft Teams; the link is shared with you ahead of time
  • The class teacher or specialist link is the same each time
  • A maximum of 15 minutes per session
  • Use the timetable as a guide to session timings
  • Log your child on five minutes early, so sessions start on time
  • Seat your child on a chair where they can see the screen comfortably
  • School uniform to be worn
  • Video on, microphones muted; the teacher will say when to unmute
  • Adult support at home during sessions is preferable
Follow-up activities (daily)
  • One activity after each live session, linked to the learning focus
  • Shared via Seesaw; children must log on as the child, not the parent. The QR code is in the back of your child’s Reading Record
  • Log in as your child to access the activity
  • Complete it after the live session, if possible
  • Share a photograph on Seesaw for the teacher to see
Explore Menu (weekly)
  • Uploaded to Seesaw each Monday, with ten activities for the week
  • Log in as your child to access the menu
  • Complete up to three activities a day, when the timetable shows ‘Explore Menu’; activities can be repeated
  • Share photographs of work on Seesaw

The Explore Menu

In Pre-Prep, continuous provision helps children develop and consolidate their skills through purposeful, play-based learning. As children will not have access to this classroom provision at home, the Explore Menu offers ten practical, engaging activities each week.

We encourage children to choose two or three activities each day, at a time that suits your family. Activities can be repeated, as repetition is an important part of learning. They use everyday household items wherever possible; any additional resources are simple and inexpensive to source.

The Distance Learning Pack

All resources to support learning in Pre-Prep will be available on Seesaw. We will, however, have whiteboards and markers, pencils and paper available for collection from school, to support the children’s engagement with live sessions and follow-up activities.

Keeping the QE Connection

Children’s wellbeing and sense of belonging matter just as much as their academic progress. Regular live contact with teachers and classmates maintains relationships, routines and community, and class teachers hold a weekly one-to-one wellbeing check-in with every family.

QE Flourish

A reduced Flourish offer continues in the afternoons, in 45-minute sessions. Nursery and FS Flourish continues on its usual designated days. See QE Flourish.

Communication

All formal communication will be by email. Learning activities, resources and updates for the day ahead, including links for live sessions, will be on Seesaw. Your child must be logged in with their own student login; the code is at the back of their Reading Record.
