Support Continues

Should the school move to distance learning, support for Students of Determination continues. Your child keeps the level of support they receive in school, delivered remotely.

Individual Education Plans continue, with the termly review held online, and targets adapted so they stay realistic at home. A member of the Elevate team will be in touch before distance learning begins to agree how it will work for your child.

What we need from you

  • Where your child works one to one with a teacher or Learning Support Assistant, an adult must be in the room for the whole session, in line with our safeguarding policy.
  • Tell us early if something is not working, or if your circumstances at home change.

What Your Child Will Receive

LevelWhat this looks like during distance learning
Level 1Teachers apply the strategies on your child’s plan in every live lesson: adapted and scaffolded work, extra time, and the adjustments your child usually receives in class.
Level 2All of the above, plus scheduled small-group sessions with the Elevate team, and an individual timetable if required, built around your child with movement and regulation breaks where they help most. Your child’s inclusion teacher checks in with you weekly, or more often if needed.
Level 3All of the above, plus an individual timetable and dedicated support from your child’s Learning Support Assistant: short individualised videos, individual online sessions with the LSA, or a combination. The timetable may open with a short circle time, includes adapted versions of the year group’s distance learning materials, and places each activity when your child is best able to take part. Your child’s inclusion teacher checks in regularly, usually every couple of days.

What Changes

  • No member of staff will visit your home.
  • The sensory room, sensory circuits, hands-on therapy programmes and personal care cannot be delivered remotely.
  • At the start, we review your child’s plan and tell you plainly which strategies continue, which are adapted and which are paused. Anything paused is recorded, so we can restart it as soon as school reopens.

Therapy and English language support

Therapy is separate from school provision. King’s College Hospital London Dubai will continue to arrange sessions, scheduling and payment with you directly. Your child’s English language support will continue through regular input from a member of the Elevate team during the week. Their class teacher will also provide adapted tasks and share strategies and resources that can be used at home, so that your child can access their learning.
